Do-It-Yourself Remedies To Reduce Fine Lines & Wrinkles

Wrinkles are a natural result of aging. No doubt we will all accumulate some, but many of us don’t celebrate their appearance. I would like to accumulate the knowledge and wisdom age provides, but look like a fresh-faced 17-year-old. I’m not so dedicated, however, that I’m willing to spend hundreds or even thousands to achieve that look of eternal youth.

Instead of buying expensive potions or signing up to have my face lifted, here are a few suggested ways to fight those wrinkles at home I’m warning you, some of the treatments are laughable and seem extremely weird, but maybe they work?

The first suggestions are a bit out of the ordinary; facial exercises, touch your tongue to the roof of your mouth as far back as possible several times a day might reduce wrinkles on your neck; create your own instant face lift using scissors, adhesive tape, a needle and thread, and gauze. Either one of those suggestions just might work, but we are looking for something a little more main stream.

Here are a few at-home treatments that may help stave off the appearance of aging and keep wrinkles at bay.

  • Keep your skin hydrated. Moisturizing is important and the use of commercial creams containing collagen or vitamin E can help to restore skin’s elasticity and reduce wrinkles.
  • Apply fresh egg whites to your face and allow it to dry for 20 minutes. Egg whites contain albumin, which is believed to contract skin and temporarily reduce wrinkles. Rinse the egg white mask with warm water, followed by a splash of cool water. Cool water will help tighten the face and contract the capillaries.
  • Use a homemade mask. Use a mixture of milk and calamine powder. Milk contains proteins that are powerful moisturizers and calamine powder is a soothing skin toner. Simply add milk to calamine powder to form a paste and apply it to your face and neck. Allow it to dry and then rinse. Ta da!
  • Make a papaya mask. Papaya fruit contains vitamins, antioxidants and an enzyme called papain, an exfoliant that removes dead skin cells. To make a papaya mask, simply mash a papaya into a paste and apply to skin. Allow it to sit for 20 minutes, and then rinse with lukewarm water.
  • Almond & honey mask for vitamins and irritation. Almonds are loaded with vitamins (including the superstar healer vitamin E) and minerals. Soak a few almonds in water overnight. Make a paste with the almonds and add a little bit of honey. Honey helps to hydrate the skin, alleviate redness and irritation, and it’s also a gentle exfoliant.
  • Give yourself a facial massage. They improve blood circulation, thereby reducing wrinkles and giving new life to your skin. Try massaging your face with fresh pineapple juice or coconut oil for 10 minutes, both of which are believed to have natural anti-aging properties.

Of course, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure so eat well, stay hydrated, exercise regularly and get plenty of rest. Beware of the amount of toxins you expose yourself to and you’ll age naturally and gracefully.
