At-Home Remedies For Removing Under Eye Bags & Reducing Puffiness

As I sat down to put my make-up on the other day, I noticed horrible bags under my eyes. I’m kind of hoping I caught myself at a bad angle, that the play of light and shadow from my bedroom window was accentuating my flaws and they’re not really that bad.

Regardless, they were there, extra luggage on my face, baggage that says I’m overtired and getting old. Screw that! So I did a little research and was pleasantly surprised that getting rid of unsightly bags can actually be pretty simple, and inexpensive.

  • Use cucumber. Yes, cucumber will reduce bags under your eyes, as well as swelling elsewhere on your face. Added bonus: cucumber is often used to reduce dark circles under eyes and remove fine wrinkles. Take a small cucumber and cut two slices, about a quarter inch thick. Set aside. Using a blender or food processor, mash the remaining cucumber into a paste. Apply the paste over your entire face, excluding your eyelids. Lie down and place the cucumber slices over your eyes. Relax for about 20 minutes. Rinse with cool water and voila! Fresh new you.
  • Tea bags are another at-home fix for under eye bags. Wet two tea bags and place them in the freezer. Once chilled, remove and place over your eyes for about 15 minutes. Antioxidants in tea stimulate and rejuvenate skin, and the chill reduces swelling. Caffeine can help reduce puffiness. Again, tea bags are a twofer; the tannin contained in tea helps to reduce the appearance of dark circles.
  • Potato slices can also be used to reduce bags under eyes. Cut a couple of quarter inch thick slices, chill them in the fridge, and place them over your eyes for 10 to 15 minutes. The tater starch helps to pull skin tighter and the chill reduces swelling.

Of course, it’s also a good idea to get plenty of rest, eat well and drink lots of water. It seems that this is at least part of the answer for just about everything. Your skin is no different, so do what you can to take care of yourself.
