5 Ways You Can Afford Organic Skin Care

1. Raid your kitchenGet back in to basics while doing your body and the planet good. The following ingredients are readily available, cheap and they work!

Olive Oil – Some swear by no other moisturizer than this; in fact, I’ve used nothing but organic [cold-pressed] olive oil to cleanse and moisturize my face for the last 2 years and my skin looks and feels great. It’s also an excellent eye makeup remover. To use as a body “lotion”, just add a few drops of peppermint essential oil to give it a great tingle and pleasant smell. See our post, “The Numerous Uses for Olive Oil”.

Baking Soda – For an inexpensive, safe and effective exfoliation, mix 2 teaspoons baking soda with a teaspoon organic olive oil. Apply to damp skin, massage gently, and leave for five minutes before rinsing with warm water.

Apple Cider Vinegar – A little mixed with water works wonders as a facial toner for oily and/or blemished skin. Use Vinegar after shampooing to remove product build up on your hair. Look for the organic brands and make sure it is cloudy, not clear.

2. Make Your Own Skin CareSearch our DIY skin care recipes to see what you can make easily at home and what you should leave to the experts. Facial masks, peels and cleansers can be made with a few simple ingredients. They won’t stay fresh, but it will cut costs and chemicals.

3. Shop Local Artisans If DIY isn’t your thing, search on Facebook or an organic/natural beauty retailer to find local handmade products. Not only will they be fresh and organic, you will be supporting local businesses. Etsy.com and the city market are also great place to look for amazing, high-quality, organic skin care.

4. Keep Value In Mind Organic products will last three to six months longer than conventional products and are a bit more expensive because of that quality. Given the time/cost exchange vs conventional products, you’re probably breaking even. Check out our article on “Organic Skin Care Ingredients That Actually Work” to see what ingredients you should be looking for when shopping.

5. Know What To Splurge On We all know that organic beauty products typically cost more and with a budget on everyone’s minds, the best way to minimize your cost is by deciding to spend more on what sits on your skin for the longest period of time (i.e. lotions, moisturizers, foundations).
